October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and at WELL Health Diagnostic Centres, we’re committed to making breast screening mammography easy and accessible throughout Ontario.

Did you know women ages 40–74 can SELF-REFER for breast screening mammography?

Your risk for breast cancer increases as you age. In fact, approximately 80% of women diagnosed with breast cancer are over the age of 45.

That’s why the OBSP (Ontario Breast Screening Program) recommends women ages 40-74 who are at average risk for breast cancer refer themselves for OHIP-covered screening mammograms every two years. Average risk for breast cancer includes:

  • No acute breast symptoms.
  • No personal history of breast cancer.
  • Not had a mammogram within the past two years.
